Hi and thanks for reading more about me!
My name is David Shapiro. I live in Austin, Texas and I run The Shapiro Group, a real estate company.
My Story
I discovered my passion for real estate before I could legally toast to it—purchasing my first property at age 20. Today, I’m proud to help others achieve their real estate and financial goals the same way I’ve reached mine: by making smart, informed choices.
Early Beginnings & Education
During my time at the University of Connecticut, I put myself through school by selling high-quality, American-made knives for Cutco Cutlery Corporation. By focusing intensely on understanding my clients’ needs and truly listening to their objectives, I quickly rose to become the top team builder in the country. One of my proudest achievements was becoming debt-free just three months after earning my degree in business and technology.
My Investment Journey
Since that first property purchase at 20, I’ve built a diverse real estate portfolio that includes:
- Half a dozen rental properties
- Partnership in a commercial building
- Development experience with “spec” homes built from the ground up
I’ve never lost money on a deal in over 10 years of investing, and I attribute this success to understanding what buyers want—from locations to features to price points they’re willing to pay.
Why I Chose Austin
After growing up on the East Coast, I fell in love with Austin’s vibrant culture and active lifestyle. Here’s what drew me in:
- Easy access to outdoor activities: hiking, biking, running, and water sports
- A thriving social sports scene perfect for meeting new people
- An incredible restaurant scene catering to health-conscious eaters (including plenty of Paleo and gluten-free options)
- A community that values both wellness and connection
My Approach to Real Estate
I believe real estate should be part of everyone’s investment portfolio. When working with clients, I:
- Conduct detailed investment analyses
- Examine future ownership costs
- Use unique strategies and tools to give my clients a competitive edge
- Go the extra mile—including targeted direct mailings to find exactly what my buyers want
I never want my clients to feel forced to settle for anything less than their ideal property.
Giving Back
After attending a Heroes for Children charity event, I found my calling in giving back to the community. I now serve on the planning committee of Hold ‘Em for Heroes, which provides financial and social assistance to families with children battling cancer. It’s incredibly moving to see how even moderate-sized donations can make a significant impact on families choosing between medical bills and basic necessities.
My Personal Life
When I’m not helping clients or investing in properties, you’ll find me:
- Staying active with Austin’s outdoor activities
- Pursuing my passion for fitness and healthy living
- Spending time with friends and fellow health enthusiasts
- Exploring Austin’s diverse food scene
- Working on new investment strategies and market analyses
